Learners, from grade 9-12, at RCMS took part in a career exhibition on the 23rd of May 2015. They were invited to make that day a success at UP and TUT. The exhibition's main purpose is to help them to discover, or rather decide on, a career path they would love to follow after completing grade 12. Most of the learners were still undecided on the courses they would love to study, and this trip was a real eye-opener.
We departed from our school premises at around 04:00 am. Punctuality was very important because numerous schools were also invited. We took a first stop at Petroport so as to allow learners to use the rest rooms. From there we headed to the Hatfield campus, UP, for our first career guidance. We were given approximately three hours to gather all the information we required. We had an opportunity to interact with the students from respective faculties that we got interested in. Each learner was given a prospectus, and other booklets and pamphlets concerning bursaries, financial aids, fees, etc.
From there we headed to the Main campus, TUT. Some of us explored the Mechanics department. We were shown all the equipments and products that TUT students built and made, for example machines and dynamos(i.e a device for turning mechanical energy into electricity, a quasi-generator). We were also given prospectus, booklets and pamphlets for reference's sake. We expended two or so hours at TUT.
We pleaded with our accompanying teachers to take us to the Colonade Mall. They afforded us two hours to buy refreshments and sundries. Then we left Tshwane at 19:00 and arrived home at around 22:30. We had such a wonderful educating experience.
